Summary of Position

Position Summary:
The Department of Agriculture, Nutrition, and Food Systems (ANFS) in the College of Life Sciences and Agriculture seeks a tenure-track faculty member in the field of Plant Pathology to conduct applied research on crop pathogens relevant to New England agriculture. The successful candidate will establish a high-impact, externally funded research program that will focus on integrated approaches to disease management, strategies to enhance crop biosecurity or quality, and/or improved understanding of host resistance.

The successful candidate is expected to contribute to undergraduate and graduate education in ANFS through teaching (courses will likely include Plant Pathology and Plant Microbe Interactions); recruiting and mentoring graduate students; and providing directed undergraduate research opportunities, an area of distinction at the University of New Hampshire (UNH).

  1. Hold a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline (postdoctoral training is desired);
  2. Have a record of significant scholarly research that aligns with the position description;
  3. Demonstrate excellent potential in teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students;
  4. Demonstrate potential for securing robust extramural research funding;
  5. Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  6. Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and research stakeholders of diverse backgrounds; and
  7. Understand and appreciate the integrated teaching, research, service, and extension components of our land-grant mission.

Department and College Description:
The ANFS Department (http://colsa.unh.edu/anfs) currently serves undergraduate majors through its Animal Science, Nutrition, and Agriculture and Food Systems programs, as well as graduate students and interns through a variety of departmental and College-wide programs. We are an interdisciplinary department of colleagues committed to enhancing the sustainability of the farm-to-fork-to-human wellness continuum through teaching and engaged research activities. Current faculty research areas include animal and plant production, plant breeding and applied genomics, dairy nutrition, and human nutrition (http://colsa.unh.edu/anfs). ANFS is one of five academic units within COLSA, which includes the state’s Agriculture Experiment Station. Relevant campus facilities include the Hubbard Center for Genome Studies, the Woodman and Kingman Agricultural Research Farms, the Fairchild Dairy Research Center, the Burley-Demeritt Organic Dairy Research Center, the MacFarland Greenhouses, the Equine and Therapeutic Riding Center, and the Nutrition Assessment & Simulation Laboratory.
