The Meruelo Family Center for Career Development (CCD) prepares students for lifelong career readiness by guiding them to discern, pursue, and achieve career goals that align with their values, interests, and skills.

The CCD’s staff features three industry specialists who provide tailored career advice and guidance to students interested in careers which fit three criteria:
  • broad student interest across students from a variety of academic majors
  • accelerated recruiting timelines
  • highly competitive recruiting processes which require technical proficiency.

This specialist focuses on the financial services industry.

The Assistant Director of Career Development / Industry Specialist is not only responsible for career advising and coaching students; this position is also charged with implementing systems and advancing relationships to ensure the University increases the number of students hired in the financial services industry, with a particular focus on top positions. To best serve our students, we are seeking a professional with direct experience in the financial services industry.

Essential responsibilities include:

PROVIDE CAREER ADVISING AND COACHING: Conduct individual and group student appointments. Advise students on how to compete for top positions in the financial services industry: this includes skills development, and behavioral and technical mock interviewing.

DEVELOP PROGRAMS AND RESOURCES: Develop self-serve resources for students to learn about the industry and recruiting processes.

LEVERAGE ALUMNI AND EMPLOYER RELATIONSHIPS: Collaborate with colleagues to cultivate a network of alumni and coordinate programing and career development support efforts (e.g. technical mock interviews, speaker series, collaboration with student club initiatives, etc.); this includes managing a networking of professionals to stay abreast with the latest industry trends and hiring timelines.

COLLABORATE WITH STUDENT-LED INITIATIVES: Partner with financial services-related student groups to support career development initiatives.

SUPPORT OF CENTRALIZED EFFORTS: Participate in regular career advising meetings and signature departmental events. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director to ensure the success of the Center for Career Development, the University, students, and other stakeholders.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Direct experience with the financial services industry (e.g. working full-time in the financial services industry and/or experience as a career advisor working with financial services preparation).
  • Experience with employment recruiting for college students.
  • Knowledge of financial services-related career paths.
  • Established network of professional contacts in the financial services industry.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills – both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in building relationships.
  • Ability to think organizationally, conceptually, and strategically.
  • Ability to manage projects and relationships simultaneously, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Serve as a team player with a positive attitude across multiple departments with distinct responsibilities.
