DEPARTMENT:

EMPLOYMENT TYPE:
Professional, $52,000 - $65,000 annually depending on education and experience, 12-month position, Exempt. As a member of our team, you will have health, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance, up to 15 days of vacation leave, 12 days of sick leave, 12 holidays, MT public employee retirement, 7% employer match in 403(b), tuition waiver for yourself and qualified dependents, and public loan forgiveness, which is an average value of $25,000 in addition to salary! If employed before June 1, 2024, you will also be eligible for a $3,120 increase on July 1, 2024.

SUMMARY:
The Paul D. Wachholz College Center is located on the main campus of Flathead Valley Community College (FVCC) in Kalispell, Montana. As the premier performing arts facility serving western Montana, the Wachholz College Center (WCC) features a 50,000 square foot facility that includes a 1,014-seat performance and lecture hall, a multi-purpose event and activity complex with two basketball courts, an outdoor amphitheater, a reception hall, and an art gallery.

The Wachholz College Center serves the community and college as a premier venue for national touring acts and local/regional artists while also serving as the home of the Glacier Symphony Orchestra. Building and maintaining relationships with community members is essential. WCC annually hosts a variety of ticketed performances across all genres of music, theater, film, and dance while also hosting numerous private events and classes. WCC’s mission is to provide transformative experiences that connect the community through the arts and serve as a cultural resource for FVCC students and the region it serves.

The Marketing & Communications Manager will play a crucial role in promoting WCC’s programs, events, and initiatives to both internal and external audiences. This individual will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive marketing strategies to ensure the success of all performances and events, enhance brand awareness, drive engagement, and support the overall mission of WCC and Flathead Valley Community College.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Marketing & Communications Manager at WCC will develop and implement marketing strategies to enhance the organization's relationship with the public and achieve revenue goals. This role involves leading marketing efforts in the rapidly growing Flathead Valley area to promote various events and activities. Responsibilities include using market research to guide strategy, creating targeted marketing campaigns, and managing budgets to ensure campaign success. The position is housed within FVCC's Marketing Department and reports to the Executive Director of College Relations, Marketing & Communications, with additional accountability to the Director of the Wachholz College Center. The ideal candidate will be a proactive, creative, and analytical individual who excels in building relationships and strategic planning.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversees the implementation of all public relations efforts at WCC.
  • Leads the rollout, execution and tracking of performance marketing campaigns. Serves as the main point of contact regarding marketing and communications efforts with artist management and agencies.
  • Establishes and manages key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics.
  • Places media buys and negotiates advertising rates across all media outlets required by each marketing campaign. Manages any/all social media buys.
  • Tracks advertising expenditures per campaign and prepares night-of-show ad packs used during the settlement process.
  • Designs, develops, and executes multi-faceted performance marketing and communications strategies that are customer-focused, data-driven and result in meeting or exceeding revenue targets for each performance in conjunctions with Director of WCC and the Executive Director of College Relations, Marketing and Communications.
  • Manages and maintains the college center's website, ensuring consistent branding and messaging.
  • Coordinates with internal departments and external partners to gather information and assets for marketing campaigns.
  • Plans and oversees the production of marketing materials, such as brochures, posters, banners, and promotional merchandise.
  • Cultivates relationships with local and regional media outlets, community organizations, campus, and key stakeholders to maximize exposure and coverage.
  • Stays current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in marketing and communication.
  • Ensures that ticket office, marketing, and communications strategies are seamlessly coordinated and responsive to changes in market trends.
  • Fosters a collaborative and professional working relationship with other WCC staff, other FVCC departments, and outside WCC vendors or contractors.
  • Collaborates with FVCC Foundation staff on all sponsorship solicitations and fulfillments.
  • Maintains, tracks, updates, and analyzes, data within the ticketing & CRM platform (AudienceView Unlimited).
  • Cross trains to perform other departmental and team functions; backfills for staff as needed.
  • Actively participates in the development of a climate that promotes and supports innovation and efforts to continuously improve services to students, faculty, and the college.
  • Creates and maintains a collaborative and collegial environment with colleagues and maintains effective working relationships
  • Maintains professional ethics and confidentiality of students in accordance with applicable laws and policies
  • Participates in the development of a climate that promotes and supports innovative services.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Reports to the Executive Director of College Relations, Marketing and Communications with a dotted line to the Director of the Wachholz Center.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field and a minimum of one year of professional related work experience; OR,
  • Associate’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field and a minimum of three years of professional related work experience; OR,
  • A combination of five years of higher education and professional related work experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Previous experience as a Marketing and Communications Manager in a busy performing arts environment
  • Knowledge of the local and regional community
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Skill in marketing, preferably with a concentration in performance halls and/or venues and event management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft engaging and persuasive content, regardless of channel, method or platform.
  • Proficiency in digital marketing tools and platforms, including email marketing, and website content management systems.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Creative thinker with a passion for storytelling and brand building.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and build relationships across departments.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Demonstrable evidence of strong customer service experience; the ability to think quickly and solve problems to ensure the comfort and safety of patrons; skill in conflict resolution
  • People skills; a talent for diplomacy; a friendly approach that can be efficient and firm
  • Must be able to work independently, and exercise strong and considerate leadership.
  • Enthusiasm for the performing arts and artists and the ability to communicate that to patrons and clients.
  • Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, as required by the event schedule.
  • Ability to build working relationships and meaningfully collaborate with internal and external contacts.
  • Ability to envision new and expanded possibilities, analyze data, identify connections, and formulate new or innovative approaches and insights.
  • Strong knowledge of standard office software including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Google tools
  • Ability and willingness to serve as a representative for WCC by interacting appropriately with the community
  • Ability to work within policies and procedures of FVCC

  • This is a Medium Duty job, according to the Selected Characteristics of Occupations Defined in the Revised Dictionary of Occupational Titles, U.S. Department of Labor and Industry. Medium Duty involves exertion of 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds continuously to move objects.
