Job Description

FISCAL OFFICER, Chemistry, to provide complex and detailed pre-award and post-award research administration for a group of faculty in the Department of Chemistry. Will administer the preparation, review, and submission of complex budgets and/or grant proposals to federal, foundation, and other research sponsors, following appropriate policies and procedures, including activities such as: reviewing solicitations and determining necessary components; organizing complex Principal Investigator (PI) proposals, often including multiple PIs and/or multi-unit proposals; managing proposals with cost sharing and/or sub-recipient costs; and managing renewal and submission in accordance with MIT/sponsor/donor policies. Will administer ongoing sponsored research activity to ensure compliance with complex sponsor requirements, agency and award terms and conditions, and MIT policy; no-cost extensions, revised budgets, closeouts, etc.; provide PIs with quarterly, or more frequent, financial updates of their Chemistry managed research and non-research accounts to ensure accurate distribution of funds; provide PIs with quarterly, or more frequent, forecasts of spending from their Chemistry managed research and non-research accounts; advise PIs, other faculty, researchers, and staff on matters pertaining to research administration including allowable costs; and escalate complex matters to management.

 

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree; a minimum of three years of relevant experience with federal grants and contracts and/or financial administration in a nonprofit organization; proficiency with Microsoft Office; solid customer service orientation; excellent organizational skills; attention to detail and the ability to work independently; excellent communication skills; and enjoy working in a challenging environment with people at all levels. PREFERRED: Knowledge of enterprise financial systems, grants management tools, and multidimensional databases; and MIT research administration experience. Job #24615-8
