Manufacturing Engineer II
Job Description
The Manufacturing Engineer II is responsible for improving and optimizing all manufacturing processes to achieve operational excellence, ensure product quality, and increase overall efficiency. Assists in guiding the manufacturing team to deliver high-quality products while meeting production targets and deadlines. Helps to identify gaps in equipment/processes and identify new technologies or strategies to address them.
Salary Range: $90,000 - $105,000 Annually
Schedule: M-F, 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM
Location: 5855 Oberlin Dr. San Diego, CA 92121
The day-to-day:
- Identifies opportunities for process optimization, efficiency improvements, and cost reduction in manufacturing operations. Lead process improvement projects to enhance productivity and quality.
- Collaborates with product development teams to ensure manufacturability of new products.
- Provide input on design for manufacturability and assembly (DFMA) to streamline production processes assure process capabilities.
- Writes SOPs and ensures adherence to quality standards throughout the manufacturing process. Implement quality control measures, conduct root cause analysis for defects, and drive corrective actions.
- Coordinates with production supervisors and planners to ensure efficient workflow.
- Evaluate, select, and implement manufacturing equipment and tooling. Ensure equipment maintenance and calibration to maintain optimal performance.
- Mentor and train junior manufacturing engineers and production personnel. Foster a culture of continuous learning and skill development within the manufacturing team.
- Champion a safety-first culture and ensure adherence to all safety guidelines and regulations in the manufacturing environment.
- Collaborate with design, supply chain, and quality teams to address product-related issues and develop solutions that balance design requirements with manufacturing capabilities.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of manufacturing processes, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and engineering changes. Prepare regular reports on key performance indicators (KPIs) for management review.
- Conduct equipment and process validations, including installation qualification (IQ), operational qualifications (OQ), process qualifications (PQs) including developing requirements and specifications
What does it take to be successful:
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering
- Subject Matter Expert in CAD software (Solidworks) and manufacturing software tools, such as Millbox/Autodesk (CAD/CAM) and other CNC type softwares.
- Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of training, education, and experience. Master's degree is a plus.
- 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering or related roles within the manufacturing industry.
- Experience in high precision machining, automated works cells, and their integration with manufacturing master software
- Experience in formulation and fabrication of products from powder based raw materials, including but not limited to mixing, thermal and pressure forming, sintering.
- In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes, Lean Manufacturing principles, and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Proven project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Practical experience and familiarity with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Strong leadership abilities, with desire in mentoring and developing junior engineers.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and quality standards related to manufacturing.
- Ability to learn technical concepts by reading work instructions and standard operating procedures, and completing on-the-job training.
- Knowledge of cGMP regulations ISO 13485, 21CFR Part 820, CMDR SOR/98-282, 93/42/EEC, RDC 16 2013, MHLW MO 169 and TG(MD)R Sch3 preferred.
