SUMMARY
The purpose of this position is to rotate through the various groups within the Supply Chain Management Department to gain knowledge and insight on SCM's primary functions. The rotational program will be about 16 weeks, and upon completion of the program, the individual will be assigned to procurement responsibilities or equivalent position within SCM.
Reports to SCM Department supervision/management as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
Under close Supervision/Mentor guidance; support assigned tasks with the SCM Department by performing:
- Basic procurement and expediting functions
- Resolve material discrepancies in accordance with established policies
- Interface with other NASSCO departments and Suppliers to resolve issues affecting procurements
- Bring issues to the attention of Management
- Organize and maintain files and keep accurate and current status of open material issues
- Understand the requirement of a complete procurement package
- Understand and utilize SCM Department Policies and Procedures/Work Instructions as well as information systems
- Procurement of goods and services within the appropriate delegated limits
- Other duties as assigned
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree required in Business, Finance or Liberal Arts or equivalent education.
- Basic understanding of business practices
- Able to quickly get to the essence of a technical, business or logistical challenge, and investigate the most relevant/important aspects to get to a solution
- Proven ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Strong PC skills in Microsoft suite
- Curious, creative and determined to deliver
- Proven ability and desire to learn.
- Able to perform well in a fast-paced and challenging environment
ACCOUNTABILITY
Accountable for supporting the internal customer through the on-time procurement and delivery of materials and services of the right quantity, quality, and best value for GD NASSCO in accordance with the standards of conduct and acquisition.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects or controls must be able to talk and hear. Must have good hand/eye coordination. The employee is occasionally required to sit, stand and walk, must be physically able to commute to various areas in the shipyard. Must have physical ability to walk to all yard locations for delivering and distribution of correspondence
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
PAYSCALE $51,600 - $66,800
This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
