As a Merchandise Analyst, you will play a vital role in supporting the merchandise organization, and will gain exposure to the merchandising career path at Petco. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to analyze business trends, optimal assortment, pricing and promotional strategies across brick & mortar and ecommerce. This position offers an excellent opportunity to learn and grow in the field of retail merchandising and analytics.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Analysis:
- Collect, organize, and analyze sales data, inventory levels, and customer buying patterns to identify trends and insights.
- Assist in generating reports and presentations to communicate findings to the merchandise planning team.
Assortment Planning:
- Collaborate with merchandising and marketing teams to develop and maintain product assortments that align with customer preferences and company goals.
- Monitor product performance and make recommendations for adjustments to assortment strategies as needed.
Program Execution
- Help execute merchandising tactics and processes across both store and ecommerce channels, including (but not limited to) vendor and item set up, promotion execution, retail price changes, competitive price monitoring, vendor funding documentation, sample management, planogramming.
- Assist in project management to ensure merchant strategies and tactics are executed on time.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with planning, inventory management, marketing, owned brand and other teams to ensure effective execution of merchandising strategies.
May also work directly with vendor partners to execute merchandising initiatives.
Market Research:
- Stay informed about industry trends, competitive landscape, and customer preferences to make informed recommendations for product selection and pricing strategies.
Reporting and Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of merchandise data, sales performance, and inventory levels.
- Assist in the preparation of regular and ad-hoc reports for management and other relevant stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Merchandising, Analytics, or a related field.
- Strong analytical skills with an ability to work with large datasets and draw meaningful insights.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or other data analysis tools.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- A team player who can collaborate across various departments.
- An interest in retail, consumer behavior, and market trends.
- Prior experience with data analysis or retail merchandising (internships, coursework, or projects) is a plus.

The pay ranges outlined below are presented in accordance with state-specific regulations. These ranges may differ in other areas and could be subject to variation based on regulatory minimum wage requirements. Actual pay rates will depend on factors such as position, location, level of experience, and applicable state or local minimum wage laws. If the regulatory minimum wage exceeds the minimum indicated in the pay range below, the regulatory minimum wage will be the minimum rate applied.
$55,800.00 - $83,800.00/ year
