Reporting to the Director of Experience Operations, the Interpreter Services Manager oversees daily operations of the Department of Interpreter Services. This position is responsible for ensuring superior language access services are available for UC San Diego Health's Limited English Proficient (LEP) patient population. Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal laws as well as adherence to the Joint Commission standards. This position is a critical part of the Office of Experience team, role modeling behavior and acting with a high level of professionalism.
Key responsibilities include:
Supervise of medical interpreters and department coordinators
Analyze process, creates, and implements plans to address improvement opportunities
Track program metrics and provide regular program updates to leadership
Engage with stakeholders at all levels of the organization, building relationships with team members across the enterprise
Mentor, train and coach direct reports
Monitor quality of performance and service offered by contracted vendors
Perform medical interpretation and translation
Bachelor's Degree in business, healthcare administration or related area; and/or equivalent combination of experience/training.
Certification from a medical interpreter school or program such as Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI) or National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (NBCMI).
A minimum of five (5+) or more years of relevant experience as a medical interpreter.
Current Language Proficiency Assessment at time of hire, or with a commitment to obtain within six (6) months of hire date.
Experience and proven success in demonstrating solid subject matter knowledge of medical interpretation and translation services to train and guide employees on techniques.
Applies cultural knowledge and sensitivity to improve patient experience.
Experience and proven success in demonstrating solid subject matter knowledge of medical interpretation and translation services.
Bilingual.
- 2 - 5 years of supervisory experience.
- Experience working with EPIC.
- Certification in Lean Six Sigma.
- Experience in public speaking
- High degree of computer literacy and competence in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
- Familiarity with and working knowledge of clinical, professional, and ancillary departments in fast paced, hospital environment
- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $69,500 - $123,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $33.29 - $59.15
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
