General Description of Position
Under the general direction and supervision of the Vice President of Instruction and the Dean for Arts & Sciences, the Associate Dean will supervise, evaluate, and provide support for faculty within the Arts & Sciences Division on the Lincoln campus. The responsibilities of this position include hiring of faculty, observing classes, determining faculty development and training needs, and assisting in administrative duties such as schedule building, managing course/program enrollment, and providing leadership to faculty. Regular work hours for this position are scheduled by the College between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. This is a full-time regular position.

Essential Functions
Supervise Faculty

  • Work with program chairs to locate, hire, and support adjunct faculty.
  • Assist Division Dean with hiring and orientation of full-time faculty.
  • Assist new faculty with creating Individual Development plans/goals.
  • Coach/mentor faculty.
  • Conduct classroom and online observations/evaluations.
  • Conduct faculty appraisals.
  • Work with faculty to develop and carry out plans of improvement as needed.
  • Develop schedules for faculty showing all required contact hours.
  • Hear and address student concerns.
  • Review/monitor student course evaluations.
  • Identify needs for and support faculty professional development. Determine training needs using faculty/Program Chair input.

 

Program Management
  • Assist the Division Dean with the completion of Master Course Forms/College Catalog updates.
  • Assist the Division Dean with the development and monitoring of program budgets.
  • Assist with representing the program at New Student Orientation and recruiting events such as Discovery Days, tours, etc.
  • Complete Program Review as Required by CCPE.
  • Develop and maintain a cooperative working relationship with all College divisions and at all campus and learning center locations.

 

Strategic Planning
  • Work with the Division Dean, other Division Associate Deans, and Program Chairs to assist in the development of the program/division Strategic Plan and report annual results.
  • Work with faculty and staff to execute/implement planned strategies.
  • Assist with implementation of enrollment management strategies in cooperation with the Dean of Student Enrollment Management.

 

Collaborate with other Associate Deans
  • Work with Deans and other Associate Deans across divisions on the development and implementation of various initiatives focused on faculty evaluation, support, and professional development.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Dean, Arts & Sciences, and/or Vice President for Instruction.

 

Remain Current in Events and Developments Related to Work Assignments
  • Increase and improve knowledge of pedagogy, leadership, etc. through supplemental sources such as in-service activities, conferences, workshops, technical updates, and personal self-study.
  • Participate in Division, Program, and College meetings, and committees.

 

Promote/Support Diversity, Inclusion, Equity, and Access
  • Work toward creating a welcoming, inclusive, equitable, and productive work and learning environment, where all students, faculty members, and college employees are valued and may contribute to their full potential, regardless of their differences.

Marginal Functions

  • Provide information and data that will assist in the preparation of the budget, course scheduling, and other required reports.
  • Participate in projects and teams that enhance the College’s overall operation.
  • May be required to perform associated duties, functions, or assignments in other divisions/programs/areas as required.
  • Perform other College functions and duties as assigned.
  • Must be able to work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required. Work schedules (hours/days/work location) are scheduled by Southeast Community College based on the needs of the College. Work hours, shifts, days, and work locations may vary depending on the needs of Southeast Community College and are subject to modification. Emergency or scheduled special activities may require hours outside of the regular workweek.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of program planning, management, and faculty supervision.
  • Understanding and appreciation of the Community College Mission.
  • Ability/skill to relate to colleagues, staff, students, and supervisors of diverse backgrounds in a positive and cooperative manner.
  • Ability/skill to apply and demonstrate effective communication skills.
  • Ability to read, interpret, comprehend, and enforce College Policy.
  • Ability/knowledge to support faculty in developing and incorporating a variety of teaching strategies and techniques in the classroom.
  • Ability/knowledge to assist faculty in devising and utilizing appropriate evaluation methods for classroom use.
  • Skills/abilities to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
  • Knowledge and experience using basic computer skills and software including; Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Windows/Explorer, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge to assist faculty with the use of technology for online or hybrid courses, and learning management systems for course development and delivery.
  • Knowledge of and ability to assist faculty with course delivery utilizing engaged learning techniques and classroom environment.
  • Ability to safely lift, carry, and move objects of at least 50 pounds in the performance of their duties.
  • Ability to safely work in an environment where there is the potential for possible exposure to hazardous chemicals and/or fluids.
  • Ability to use effective problem-solving techniques with faculty and staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in writing, in person, and on the phone.
  • The individual must possess the above skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in an Arts & Sciences discipline, or Bachelor’s degree in an Arts & Sciences discipline with a Master’s degree in education or leadership.
  • Three (3) years of teaching experience at the secondary or post-secondary level.
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience in education.

 


Desired Qualifications
  • Master’s in an Arts & Sciences discipline.
  • Additional graduate coursework in other Arts & Sciences disciplines and/or Educational Administration.
  • Five years of teaching experience at the post-secondary level.
  • Supervisory experience at the post-secondary level.
  • Direct supervision of faculty.
  • Teaching experience in online, hybrid format, flipped classroom, and progressive experience in utilizing technology in curriculum development and delivery.
  • Experience with enrollment management and institutional research.
  • Teaching and/or supervisory experience at a community college.
  • Supervisory experience at multiple institutions of higher education.

Salary
$72,108
