The Program Director of Internal Engagement within the Department of Development is a strategic leader dedicated to fostering a connected, informed, and motivated workforce. This role entails crafting and executing communication and engagement strategies that reflect the organization’s mission, values, and objectives. The Program Director will oversee that all internal communications are clear, consistent, and contribute to a positive workplace culture.
Responsibilities include:
- Internal Communication Strategy: Create and implement a comprehensive internal communication strategy that aligns with organizational goals and boosts employee engagement. This role also ensures University Relations’ communication and engagement efforts by designing and executing internal communication programs and channels that support strategic initiatives, foster company culture, and enhance the employee experience. Collaborate with Information Technology to manage the internal communication website/intranet and ensure consistent messaging across all internal communication platforms.
- Content Creation and Management: Oversee the creation of engaging content for various internal channels, including newsletters (souNDoff), intranet, emails, podcasts (Grace of Giving), videos, and All-Staff meetings (Blueprints). Ensure that communication materials are aligned with the division’s values.
- Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Unity: Serve as a task force member. Assist with exit and retention interviews within the division to identify key themes and issues in UR’s employee experiences.
- Employee Engagement: Develop and enhance strategies to foster and improve employee engagement, and may manage programs designed to foster it. These may include, but are not limited to, employee recognition programs, wellness programs and other activities aimed at creating a positive culture and workplace environment. Lead initiatives to boost employee engagement, including surveys, feedback systems, and recognition programs. Analyze engagement data and implement strategies to improve employee satisfaction and retention.
- Manage and Coordinate: Supervise and support the Senior Office Coordinator, providing guidance and training as needed. Ensure the front desk operates smoothly, handling inquiries, phone calls, and scheduling. Oversee the management of office supplies, meeting room coordination, and assist with administrative tasks. Maintain a professional and organized work environment. Handle escalated issues and provide backup support when necessary.
- Collaborate and Leadership: Work closely with senior leadership, HR, Information Technology & Services and other departments to support communication needs and ensure alignment with organizational goals. Serve on organizational committees that align with communication, wellness, and employee engagement. Integrate and contribute to campus-wide LOD sponsored networks, initiatives and opportunities. Constantly extract value from the campus landscape and apply to UR. Advise and support leaders on effective communication practices.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or 2 – 3 years related experience
- Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Ability to interact with diverse constituencies in appropriate, positive ways
- Demonstrated attention to detail and willingness to be a strategic partner
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and Google (email, calendaring, docs and sheets)
- Alignment with mission and values of the University
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
