Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Community College of Aurora (CCA), under the leadership of the sixth president of CCA, Dr. Mordecai Ian Brownlee, has established the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Division to drive the campus-wide vision for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). The Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion works with the president, senior leaders, faculty, staff, instructors, students, and community stakeholders to increase awareness and understanding of DEI and equitable student success as an institutional imperative.

 The Executive Director of Equitable Student Success reports to the Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (VP of DEI) and plays a pivotal role in enhancing support for special student populations and promoting a culture of equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging within the Community College of Aurora. This role works with constituents across the campus in identifying equity gaps through review and interpretation of Data, and in identifying/developing interventions and programming to support retention, persistence and completion rates of special student population. Additionally, this position will provide oversight and supervision for the CCA Cultural Center Trio Student Support Services (TRIO SSS), TRIO Student Support Services English Second Language (TRIO ESL), and the Office of Disability and Equity (ODE). Through implementing programs, events and training, the DEI Division aims to create a climate that is inclusive, values lived experiences, respects identities and encourages belonging and success.
 The Executive Director of Equitable Student Success is eligible for some flexible workspace arrangements with opportunities for in-person and remote work. At CCA, we believe in fostering a collaborative work environment that leverages both virtual and in-person interactions to achieve our goals effectively.


OVERVIEW OF CCA  

The Community College of Aurora serves our diverse community by providing high-quality instruction and support services to prepare students for transfer and employment. In addition to traditional degree and certificate programs, CCA offers non-credit professional development courses, customized training, and economic and workforce development resources to employer partners and individual professionals seeking to enhance the capacity and productivity of their workforce or individual knowledge and skills. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive strategy for equitable student success that aligns with the institution's mission and goals.
  • Lead the design and implementation of initiatives to close achievement gaps and promote diversity and inclusion.
  • Utilize data-driven approaches to identify and address disparities in student outcomes and work collaboratively with Academic Success to develop initiatives and programs
  • Oversee the creation, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services that support underrepresented and marginalized student populations.
  • Ensure programs are innovative, evidence-based, and responsive to the evolving needs of students.
  • Collaborate with Academic Success, Student Success, and external partners to enhance student support systems.
  • Develop and implement metrics to assess the effectiveness of equity initiatives and student success programs.
  • Regularly analyze data to monitor progress, identify areas for improvement, and inform decision-making.
  • Prepare and present reports to senior leadership, highlighting successes, challenges, and recommendations for future actions.
 Leadership/Supervision
  • Leads the visioning and the ongoing development of the Cultural Center and the Cultural Center Programs.
  • Provides supervision and performance management for Cultural Center Personnel, and Directors of DEI Division Programs: Trio SSS, TRIO ESL, ODE and any other related programs that are created in alignment with the DEI Mission, Vision.
  • Serve as proxy in the absence of the VP of DEI as needed.
Assessment & Evaluation
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of DEI initiatives and programs, making data-driven recommendations for effectiveness and continuous improvement.
  • Establish intentional Learning Outcomes, and conduct reporting of co-curricular programming.
  • Assist VPDEI in implementing campus climate assessments, gathering information and data, and producing DEI-related reports.
 
Programming & Development
  • Provide DEI college-wide events, education and programming to build knowledge of equity, inclusion, access, and build cultural competency skills 
  • Recommend/Create/implement efforts for students from special populations and students with disabilities in compliance with ADA/504 responsibilities.
  • Conduct engagement programs and events in, in-person and virtual modalities.
Conduct Budget Management over the Cultural Center budget.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Masters degree from an accredited institution in higher education administration, student affairs, sociology, social justice, Ethnic Studies, Women & Gender studies, or related fields
  • Demonstrated understanding of issues affecting special student populations, including students with disabilities, first-generation students, underrepresented students, and students of color.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience in using data to drive decision-making and assess program effectiveness.
  • Proven leadership and supervisory experience, with the ability to mentor and develop staff in a collaborative team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to facilitate workshops, deliver presentations, and engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Commitment to fostering a campus environment that values diversity, equity, and inclusion, and promotes the success and well-being of all students.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Understanding of DEI Theory and frameworks
  • Strong understanding of Equity gaps and knowledge of best practices to encourage student success of diverse populations.
  • Experience incorporating services in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act as Amended (ADAAA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and other federal and state laws pertaining to persons with disabilities
  • Experience working at a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), or a Minority-Serving Institution (MSI) and/or an Achieving the Dream School.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Salary Range:  Anticipated starting salary range is $80000.00-$85,000.00 annually. This salary is determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information. CCA offers an excellent benefit plan, including generous leave, holiday, and education benefits. Full time employees immediately upon hire earn 15 hours a month annual leave and 10 hours a month sick leave.
