Position Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director of Advancement Services, the Director of
Advancement Services serves as a key point of contact within Advancement
Services for DAUR and University staff, and serves as the second to the
Executive Director. They are responsible for all aspects of the daily contribution
and data processing work of the Advancement Services team in Fordham’s
Office of Development and University Relations (DAUR).
Essential Functions
∙Oversees activities related to gift accounting and data management to
meet DAUR business needs while ensuring accurate and timely entry and
receipting, targeting continuous improvement, increasing efficiencies,
improving systems integration, and recommending and implementing
innovative uses of technology.
∙Incorporates best practices for fundraising, data security, and financial
processing in the unit’s operations.
∙Develops and implements data quality standards and internal financial
controls following industry best practices.
∙Creates, implements, and regularly updates documentation for policies,
procedures, and workflows for all aspects of Advancement Services work,
recommending changes and improvements as needed.
∙Partners with DAUR unit heads and the Executive Director of
Advancement Services to assess data collection and hygiene strategies
and suggest changes and/or new initiatives to support DAUR’s ongoing
work.
∙Spearheads review and validation of gift and biographical information in an
MS-Dynamics based CRM to support DAUR fundraising and engagement
efforts.

Management Responsibilities
Supervises the work of other Fordham employees who are individual
contributors. Responsible for hiring, training and developing, managing
performance and administering corrective action. Has significant input in
compensation decisions.
Additional Functions
∙Partners with the Executive Director on strategic initiatives and special
projects as dictated by the needs of DAUR, the University, and the
Advancement Services group.
∙Assists in the integration, collection, and regular maintenance of data
across multiple systems.
∙Trains Advancement Services and DAUR team members in systems use
and best practices.
∙Manages both daily departmental coordination of activities and larger
scale/longer term projects as necessary.
∙Oversees the collection and appropriate storage and retention of
documentation relevant to the team’s work.
Required Qualifications: Education and Experience
∙Bachelor’s degree, or in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 6 years experience
in advancement services in a higher education or nonprofit environment,
and a minimum of 3 years experience managing others.

∙Customer service and solution-oriented mindset
∙Deep understanding and knowledge of best practices in fundraising and
development operations
∙Proven management experience, working effectively to develop, promote,
and grow teams as individuals and an overall unit
∙Demonstrated experience in project management and implementing
process improvements
∙Knowledge of relevant business standards such as IRS regulations for gift
recording and receipting, FASB and CASE standards, operating guidelines
and reporting requirements, and basic understanding of generally
accepted accounting principles
∙Demonstrable experience in one or more development-oriented CRM
systems (e.g., Ellucian CRM Advance, Banner Advancement, Raiser’s
Edge, etc.), relational databases, and Microsoft Office tools including
Access and Excel
∙Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
∙Ability to multitask, prioritize work effectively, meet firm deadlines, and to
handle the pressure of a fast-paced work environment
∙Maintains an understanding of University, IRS, and CASE policies,
regulations, and standards as they pertain to gift acceptance, processing,
and receipting; provides guidance to gift and data processing staff and
fundraisers as necessary
∙Strong attention to detail and accuracy
∙Demonstrated competence performing simple to advanced data analysis
tasks
∙Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with appropriate
discretion.
∙Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to
the goals of Jesuit Education.
Preferred Qualifications
∙Experience in/with Ellucian CRM Advance or MS Dynamics, Banner
Advancement, Anthology Encompass, and/or data warehouses
∙Demonstrated experience in leadership of a mixed team of technical and
operational data services professionals; experience in management of
exempt and union staff positions
∙Experience managing clerical staff
∙Experience in basic SQL query writing
Minimum Starting Salary: $100,000
Maximum Starting Salary: $110,000
Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
