Position Summary 
Reporting to the Senior Executive Director of Development, the Prospect 
Research Associate conducts in-depth research on individuals and organizations 
to evaluate their connections, interests, and potential contributions to the 
University, generating detailed profiles for major gift officers and university 
leaders. 
 
The position manages prospecting tools, identifies new donor prospects, updates 
the database, prepares research for events and campaigns, and assists in 
training research staff and interns. 
 
Essential Functions 
Compiles and analyzes detail biographical and other publicly available 
information on individuals and organizations to determine prospects’ 
relationships with the University, interests, and giving capacity. 
Prepares/updates written profiles on potential individual, corporate and 
foundation prospects for major gift officers, the President of the University 
and the Vice President for University Relations. 
Manages and reviews daily periodicals, lists alerts and other resources or 
prospecting resources. 
Proactively prospects for new donors and determines their giving capacity. 
Updates prospect database accordingly. 
Prepares specialized research for event and campaign purposes. 
Assists in training of new research staff as well as assists in the 
management and training of student interns.

Management Responsibilities 
Guides work of other employees who perform essentially the same work and/or 
student workers. Organizes, sets priorities, schedules and reviews work, but is 
generally not responsible for final decisions in hiring, performance management 
or compensation. 
 
Required Qualifications: Education and Experience 
Bachelor’s degree in English, liberal arts, business, social sciences, 
communications, or related field. 
Minimum of 1 year experience in prospect research or related area. 
 
Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills 
Familiarity and facility with standard prospect research tools: business 
directories, on-line databases, and Internet resources and programs. 
Must have a sense of initiative and inquisitiveness. 
Must be strategic, creative thinker with excellent prioritization and multi-
tasking skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with different audiences, 
including researchers, fundraisers and senior-level administration as well 
as the ability to effectively synthesize information from a variety of sources 
into an organized format. 
Accuracy and attention to detail is a must. 
Knowledge of PC, MS Word, Excel, Lexis-Nexis, WealthEngine, and 
Inteligize. 
Must possess excellent writing skills and thorough research skills. 
Must be reliable and flexible and able to meet tight deadlines. 
Ability to work as a team member as well as independently. 
Must be able to handle confidential material in a discreet and ethical 
manner. 
Experience in complex nonprofit environment and an understanding of 
fundraising and nonprofits. 
Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to 
the goals of Jesuit Education. 
 
Preferred Qualifications 
Familiarity with and understand the Association of Professional 
Researchers for Advancement (APRA) skill sets. 
Knowledge of Guidstar, FC Search and other on-line research databases. 
Advance CRM, Blackbaud FPM, or a fundraising CRM experience. 
 
Minimum Starting Salary: $62,400 
 
Maximum Starting Salary: $67,200 
 
Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
