Job Description:


Eastern Shore Community College is a member of the Virginia Community College System. The College serves the residents of Accomack County and Northampton County as a two-year institution of higher learning. Operating under policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Eastern Shore Community College Board, the college is financed primarily with state funds, supplemented by contributions from the two counties and the Eastern Shore Community College Foundation.

The Career Services Coach supports the activities of ESCC’s Contact to Career program, including a comprehensive Career Services Center and the Title III grant which funds the program. The Career Services Coach will assist in the implementation of strategies that improve student retention, increase students in internships, increase the number of students who attain credentials, and increase the number of students who transition from adult education to academic programs. This position will also assist in services, programs, and events that support the school’s mission, meeting the needs of a diverse campus population and fostering student professional and career development. Finally, this individual must be able to provide excellent service to students, alumni, employers and members of the community.

This is a restricted funded position.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Working knowledge of career assessments, ability to develop individual career plans and provide career counseling.
  • Knowledge of career counseling theories and techniques, ability to research, analyze and interpret data for reports.
  • Ability to establish positive working relationships with local employers, state, federal, community agencies, and professional organizations.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication (oral and written), and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of project and event planning – ability to organize activities such as employer visits and career and job fairs.
  • Ability to work with diverse student, faculty, and staff populations.
  • Ability to work independently and part of a team, prioritize workloads and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to exercise appropriate judgment and maintain confidentiality regarding a variety of sensitive information.
  • Skilled in the use of PC based software including Word, databases, spreadsheets and web-based software for student and career management systems.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures in a community college environment.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in higher education setting.
  • Experience in recruiting, career services, employer relations, business development/marketing, and/or strategic planning.
  • Experience with online career management systems.
  • Understanding college resources to include financial aid, student services, and academic programs.
  • Experience with job searches, resume writing, interviewing and professional soft skills.
