Job Title- MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN-PLUMBING

Position Status- Full Time

Classification Title- Para-Professional-12m

Work Location- Main Campus-3600 N. Garfield, Midland, TX

Job Summary- The Maintenance Technician-Plumbing is responsible for the day-to-day coordination and completion of plumbing work orders and other work orders as assigned. This position is also responsible for maintaining inventory of common plumbing supplies, assisting with estimating plumbing materials and labor costs per job, as well as assist with building projects to ensure compliance with College standards.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Current Texas Journeyman Plumber License
  • Two years of documented experience as a licensed plumber; preferably in a facility of a comparable size
  • Advanced skills in plumbing
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Computer literacy
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to operate pipe threading equipment, drain cleaning machines, vacuum and pressure gauges, soldering equipment, and all hand tools associated with the plumbing craft
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s license, good driving record, and be insurable on Midland College’s insurance policy

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five years of documented experience in a facility of a comparable size
  • Current Texas Master Plumber License

Essential Functions

  • Coordination and completion of all assigned work orders
  • Supervise plumbing activities performed by other maintenance staff members
  • Assist with plans, layouts, estimate plumbing materials and labor costs per job if necessary, requisition necessary materials and supplies, and maintain accurate records as directed
  • Observe safety procedures, use personal safety devices, and attend frequent safety and job training sessions as scheduled
  • Schedule and test:
      • Gas shut-in tests for all buildings
      • Double check valvesAnnually
  • Monthly
  • Safety showers and eye-washers
  • Domestic water treatment equipment – water softeners & r/o water systems, tankless water heaters, traditional water heaters, etc.
  • Work cooperatively with other departments
  • Communicate with administration for scheduled work and coordinate schedules in order to minimize disruption when possible
  • Maintain inventory of common plumbing supplies
  • Schedule cleaning and emptying of grease and sand traps as needed
  • Work will require travel to other College locations or travel to pick up supplies, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • Use of manual dexterity; use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls; use one or two hands to grasp, move, or assemble objects; use fingers to grasp, move, or assemble very small objects
  • Ability to make quick, precise adjustments to machine controls
  • Ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach out
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs
  • Ability to kneel, stoop, crouch, or crawl
  • Use muscles to lift, push, pull, move or carry heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Work may be performed indoors or outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to perform the normal physical demands of the plumbing craft
  • Ability to drive a vehicle
  • Available for scheduled on-call duties (approximately every 6th weekend), as well as emergency response situations as requested)

Pay Statement- Salary is commensurate with educational qualifications and experience.
