Job Description

Duties

  • Exercise exclusive law enforcement jurisdiction responsible for the, apprehension or detention of persons suspected or convicted of offenses against the criminal laws of the United States.
  • Serve as a police patrol officer enforcing Federal criminal laws and the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) involving persons and property.
  • Protect government property, materials and facilities against trespass, theft, fire, damage and espionage.
  • Detain or arrest suspected or guilty persons.
  • Collect and protect evidence, witnesses, victims, etc.
  • Arrest persons committing or suspected of committing crimes on the installation.
  • Patrol assigned area by vehicle or on foot to preserve the peace, prevent crime, and protect lives and property.

Requirements

Conditions of Employment

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the incumbent to pass a pre-appointment and subsequent periodic medical/psychiatric evaluations to determine their ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position requires the incumbent to perform and pass semi-annual qualification testing with firearms (pistol, rifle, shotgun, etc), and observe applicable safety precautions.
  • This position requires the Incumbent to obtain and maintain certifications for Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) /first aid techniques.
  • This position requires the incumbent to pass an annual Physical Ability Test (PAT) and perform the essential functions of the position to standards published in Army Regulation (AR) 190-56.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid state Motor Vehicle License and obtain and maintain local government driver's license.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • This position requires the incumbent to successfully complete a Police Officer Field Training Program within one year of employment to this position.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position requires the incumbent to meet individual reliability and suitability standards prescribed by the Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program (Army Regulation (AR) 190-56 and AR 380-67).
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. To qualify at the GS-05 Grade Level: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience enforcing law, maintaining law and order, preserving the peace, and protecting life and civil rights within the established jurisdiction. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). (Note: Successful completion of a Federal, State, county, or municipal police academy or comparable training course which included at least 40 classroom hours of instruction in police department procedures and methods, and local law and regulations, may be substituted for three months of specialized experience).

OR

Education: Four years of education above the high school level in an accredited school leading to a bachelor's degree in Police Science or a comparable degree program related to the work of the position, such as Criminal Justice, etc.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 120. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Advancement to positions up to GS-05 have no time in grade restrictions if the position to be filled (GS-05) is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee has held (GS-03) within the preceding 52 weeks.

To Qualify at the GS-06 Grade LevelSpecialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Issuing citations in violation of law enforcement regulations; 2) Conducting law enforcement investigations related to critical incidents (such as traffic accidents, domestic violence, assaults, child abuse/neglect) in accordance to policies and procedures; and 3) Interviewing witnesses to gather information about incidents. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).

To Qualify at the GS-07 Grade LevelSpecialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Issuing citations in violation of law enforcement regulations; 2) Conducting law enforcement investigations related to critical incidents (such as traffic accidents, domestic violence, assaults, child abuse/neglect) in accordance to policies and procedures; 3) Interviewing witnesses to gather information about incidents: 4) Establish Incident Command at the onset of terrorist attack or other significant incidents; 5) Conducts civilian training regarding various law enforcement topics. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone-no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
