Position Summary:
You will join KFF Health News’ entrepreneurial and ambitious team as Editor and Correspondent at KFF Health News focused on public health issues and based either in New York, NY, or Atlanta, Georgia. KFF Health News is one of KFF’s four major operating programs, along with Policy Analysis, Polling and Survey Research, and Social Impact Media which together enable KFF to serve as the most trusted independent source of information on national health issues. KFF Health News is our national newsroom, producing and distributing in-depth journalism about health issues across the country with a large, vibrant and ambitious team in Washington, D.C., California, New York, Missouri, Colorado, Montana, Georgia, and across the South.
In this role as part of KFF Health News's public health reporting team, you will write public health stories from New York or Atlanta under your own byline for publication by our newsroom and for joint projects undertaken with other news organizations.
As a reporter, you would write a steady stream of stories of varying lengths and ambition. Even shorter pieces should strive for high impact. The focus is on helping our diverse readers understand how public health works – or doesn’t work – for both local and national audiences.
As an editor, you will help generate ideas and formulate stories with your reporting colleagues as well as freelancers and give those stories an initial edit. You will help freelance and staff reporters in New York and Atlanta localize our national stories and help identify those local stories that could be suitable for KFF Health News's national audience. You will be responsible for ensuring they also produce a mix of stories, and you will work with the production team to make sure the stories have graphics and photo assignments and with the copy desk and publication partners to address any questions.

Compensation:
KFF provides a compensation package that is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
The annual salary range for this position is between $88,400 and $120,000. Offers are based on the candidate's years of experience and KFF’s practice of upholding salary equity. KFF also offers a generous, comprehensive benefits package.
