Summary
The University of Michigan, Department of Cardiac Surgery, Section of Adult Cardiac Surgery is seeking a full-time cardiac or general surgeon at the Clinical Instructor or Clinical Assistant rank. This position will be the primary surgeon for cardiac, thoracic, and pediatric organ procurements including support of the organ perfusion program. The surgeon will also serve as the surgical first assistant role for cardiac organ transplant procedures and other adult cardiac surgery procedures. On-call coverage is required for organ procurements and the ECMO adult cardiac program. Rank of selected candidate is dependent upon qualifications. Responsibilities*
- Evaluation of transplant organs and organ procurement, including DCD heart and lung procurement
- Participation in ex-vivo heart perfusion and normothermic regional perfusion
- Exposure to and education in ex vivo lung perfusion
- Participation in ECMO cannulation and management and potential leadership.
- Opportunity to participate in and develop expertise in heart and lung transplant operations and post-transplant management
- Opportunity to participate in nontransplant operations, including all aspects of cardiac surgery
- Opportunity to participate in research
Required Qualifications*
- Candidates must have completed an American Board of Thoracic Surgery approved training program in cardiothoracic surgery.
- Applicants must be Board Certified or Board Eligible via the pathways stipulated by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
- Candidates must be eligible for a medical license in the state of Michigan.
- Candidates must be US Citizens or US Permanent Residents (Green Card) or eligible for H-1B sponsorship.
- Candidates must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.
